I try to imagine what it would be like to be in Jennifer's situation - in fear of her life and the lives of her 2 little boys, scared and wondering how she will provide a safe environment after fleeing an abuser who has just tried to strangle her.

Jennifer (her name has been changed to protect her identity) sought urgent help from Denton County Friends of the Family. There, she was able to have a safe place to stay, appropriate services such as counseling for her and her children, legal advocacy, and help setting up her new life without fear of abuse.

Established almost 40 years ago, Denton County Friends of the Family serves over 7000 individuals a year. (That's a very sobering number to me.) They provide a 24 hour crisis line, a 32-bed protective residential shelter, counseling programs for adults, adolescents and children, community outreach and education, violence intervention and prevention, legal advocacy, accompaniment through legal services as well as medical services, and so much more.

During the month of January, 10% of all sales proceeds will go directly to Denton County Friends of the Family. I am so proud to support this organization that is all about empowering people who have been impacted by rape, sexual abuse, and domestic violence.
