First, I have to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you who supported Serve Denton throughout the month of February! It was a privilege to get to know the selfless (and tireless) people who run Serve Denton and the Wheeler House. Your contributions will help to make the Wheeler House a refuge for women and children in need!

This month, 10% of all sales proceeds of LJ Artisan Designs jewelry will support a wonderful cause - the Monsignor King Outreach Center! The MKOC  is an ecumenical outreach to Denton's homeless population. The mission of the MKOC is to provide basic essential emergency assistance to disadvantaged members of the Denton community during times of inclement weather. They provide a nourishing meal, a comfortable and safe place to sleep for the night, guidance to local support organizations, as well as hospitality and fellowship from their many gracious volunteers.

I had the privilege of knowing Monsignor King before he passed away in 2011. During a bitter cold spell in 2009, he opened the doors of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church to the homeless population so that they could have a safe and warm place to sleep. I remember that not everyone was in support of his decision to do this, but he just said, "This is what we're supposed to be doing."

A true collaboration of the MKOC board of directors, several churches, organizations, individuals, and businesses are working to realize Msgr. King’s dream of truly helping our fellow brothers and sisters to feel loved, appreciated, and have the dignity of self-sufficiency.

The MKOC recently received this note from one of their clients:

"Monsignor King Outreach Shelter has helped me so much in the last 2 years.  During the last ice storm, they were open two weeks straight. They provided clothing and blankets.  Also provided hot meals.  The staff are all volunteers and I'm so grateful for them.  They do it because they actually care about homelessness in our community.  March 2, I move into my new apartment.  JS"

If you need a gift for someone special this month or just want a beautiful piece of jewelry to brighten your day, know that your purchase will be helping vulnerable people to feel safe, supported and helped to become self-sufficient.

All My Best,

Leah
