First, the bad news - the United States has one of the worst records for child abuse among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect. (statistic taken from childhelp.org)

Now for the good news - there are incredible organizations, like the Children's Advocacy Center for Denton County who are advocating for healing and justice for abused children and their families. The Children's Advocacy Center takes an integrated approach to the investigation, treatment and prosecution of child abuse cases. They work to break the cycle of child abuse by educating families and our community to proactively protect children.

One example of the many children who have been helped through the CAC is Sam. He was given a safe place through the play therapy program at the center. Although shy at first, he quickly bonded with his therapist and learned how to develop positive coping skills, build his self-confidence, and heal from the trauma of his abuse. After his last day of therapy, his therapist found a note that Sam had written to her. It read

"I am going to miss you! Thanks for helping me get strong!"

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. I am so proud to donate 10% of all sales proceeds during the month of April to the Children's Advocacy Center for Denton County. Let's work together to help stop child abuse!
