You know the word and chances are, someone close to you has gotten the diagnosis of cancer.

It may have even been you who was told that you had to fight this awful disease.

My own family has fought cancer and I'm proud to say that my loved one is cancer-free today!

When the diagnosis of cancer is given, there are so many questions that you have to process - questions about what the treatment will be like and how painful/uncomfortable it will be, how to find the best physicians, how much work or school will be lost, how will this affect the family, how to pay for the medical treatment on top of all of the regular bills...

I could go on and on.

I would like to introduce you to Texas Cowboys Against Cancer. TCAC strives to lessen the burden for cancer patients who are uninsured or underinsured each year by providing financial support so that the recipient and their family can focus on winning the fight against cancer.

I have seen TCAC in action personally. There was a young girl at my church who fought so hard against the cancer that was taking a hold of her little body, but sadly she lost her fight leaving behind amazingly strong parents and 2 very young siblings. Upon finding out that her parents were struggling to pay their monthly utility bills due to the heavy burden of so many medical expenses, Texas Cowboys Against Cancer gave this family money that helped them to get their heads above water financially. The hole in their hearts would never be completely healed, but the fact that they didn't have the financial stress on top of the heavy emotional burden was invaluable.

TCAC hosts an annual fundraiser which includes team roping, mutton bustin', dinner and a dance. In 2017, they gave a total of $75,000 to direct recipients. Included in this is a Crisis Fund that is given out when they see a need. (Our sweet family from church was helped through this fund.)

I am proud that 10% of all sales proceeds during the month of October will be donated to Texas Cowboys Against Cancer. Let's help them as much as we can to take some of the financial burden off of those who are fighting this dreaded disease.
